Saunders demolished the original Meyers Pool building and replaced it with a new, modern and larger facility for the Arvada community.

The George C. Meyers Pool was built in 1979 and reached the end of its useful life as a community facility. While it was constructed to industry standards at the time, many of the materials have begun to deteriorate due to the natural moisture of an aquatics facility. Saunders was selected as the CM/GC to complete the reconstruction of the new aquatics facility in the current parking area, and demo the original building. As an important community asset, construction was completed in three phases to keep the original building open as long as possible to community members. During the final phase of construction, the pool was closed for demolition and became the parking lot for the new building.

The new facility, now named the Arvada Aquatics Center, was designed to be modern and larger to provide more space for recreational and competitive swimming opportunities for the community. For recreational users, this means additional opportunities for programming like swim classes and other group activities. For competitive swimmers, this will expand the ability and convenience for large-scale swim meets. Some key improvement features include:

• Additional dedicated seating for spectators
• Secondary 25-yard pool for community use and programming
• Universal changing rooms to provide greater ADA accessibility and inclusive space for families
• Expanded parking capacity
• Designed to achieve LEED Silver certification
• Advanced filtration system to conserve water

The diving area includes:

• Three 3-meter manufactured diving stands
• Three 1-meter manufactured diving stands
• On-deck warming showers for use between dives
• Cameras for recording dives and overhead safety harness for training purposes

The new facility and additional amenities provide the Arvada community with an asset that has the potential to draw in additional swimming competition and tourism while providing a modernized and high-quality facility for local competitive swimmers who call the facility 鈥渉ome.鈥�
